COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity
In order to experience the differences in sport psychology between the U.S. and Western Europe, students will make numerous site visits to sport locations in Germany and hear from European specialists in the field. Among the activities that cannot be duplicated in or around Texas A&M are:, attend professional soccer games, visits to the world headquarters of the International Paralympics Committee, the German Olympic Committee and German Soccer Com-mittee headquarters in Frankfurt, the World Anti-Doping Agency Testing Site, the Sports University in Cologne, a Sports Injury Hospital, and the Olympic Stadia in Munich and Berlin.

Psychology of Adjustment
Human adjustment covers a broad spectrum of challenges in areas like, education, physical and mental health, marriage and family life, educational attainment, aging, the workplace, and religion. Accordingly, visits will be made to sites that would be appropriate for selected professionals to discuss their specialties as they fall within the adjustment umbrella. Among possible visits are churches, selected business and corporate sites, the World Health Organization site in Bonn, and music and sporting events. Potential guest speakers will include marriage and family therapists, experts from the World Health Organization, business negotiation experts, and others with expertise in the nuances of adjustment within the German social context.

LOCATION

BonnSituated on the Rhine River, Bonn is the former capital of West Germany as well as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. The city and its surroundings are rich in castles, medieval towns and natural beauty. Students can play fußball in one of Bonn’s several parks, explore the gardens of Poppelsdorfer Castle or walk, run or bike along the Rhine.

Bonn has developed into an international technology, business, research and NGO hub, and serves as corporate headquarters for T-Mobile, Deutsche Post, DHL and is home to the famous gummybear company HARIBO; houses several world-renown research centers; and is one of the world’s largest United Nations cities.

Bonn is centrally located in Western Europe allowing easy train travel to cities such as Paris and Amsterdam. The Bonn-Cologne airport is served by many low-cost airlines allowing students access to cities such as Venice, Budapest, London, Rome, Prague and Barcelona, among others.

CULTURAL EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES

In addition to the activities that focus on course content, cultural visits, guest speakers and excursions will be numerous. Major cities that will be visited in addition to Bonn will include but not be limited to Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Basel, Vienna and Salzburg. Additionally scheduled activities include a visit to an alpine vil-lage for hiking and climbing (indoor), a boat cruise on the Rhine River with all its scenic castles, a rooftop tour of Cologne Cathedral, and visits to assorted historical, cultural and arts museums, and relevant films and lectures about German history.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Open to all majors with a min. GPR of 2.0
  • Good standing with TAMU and approval of professor
  • Students must attend all Study Abroad meetings
