PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Sport Management study abroad program is designed for students who are interested in learning about the business of sport in Europe and experiencing the best of both the old historical culture and new vibrancy of Germany at the same time. The five-week program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who can earn up to six credits

Fragen? COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

International Sport Business
This course will expose the student to the business of sport as practiced in Europe. Students will gain an appreciation for the manner in which sport organizations, federations and corporations manage their operations to create successful business entities. Topics will include marketing, sponsorship, finance, legal issues, media, ethics, globalization, international negotiations, "sport-for-all", etc.

Sport Governance
This course examines management and governance of international sport organizations and federations, and the managerial strategies used in European sport organizations.

Site visits for both classes include the 6.6 million member German Soccer Association in Frankfurt, Deutsche Telekom (primary sponsor of the 2006 World Cup), the German Olympic Sports Confederation, the International Paralympic Committee, the sport sponsorship program of the German Armed Forces, the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland, as well as a workshop on European Sport law and a two 2-day workshop with the German Sport University in Cologne.

Bonn Situated on the Rhine River, Bonn is the former capital of West Germany as well as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. The city and its surroundings are rich in castles, medieval towns and natural beauty. Students can play fußball in one of Bonn’s several parks, explore the gardens of Poppelsdorfer Castle or walk, run or bike along the Rhine.

Bonn has developed into an international technology, business, research and NGO hub, and serves as corporate headquarters for T-Mobile, Deutsche Post, DHL and is home to the famous gummybear company HARIBO; houses several world-renown research centers; and is one of the world’s largest United Nations cities.

Bonn is centrally located in Western Europe allowing easy train travel to cities such as Paris and Amsterdam. The Bonn-Cologne airport is served by many low-cost airlines allowing students access to cities such as Venice, Budapest, London, Rome, Prague and Barcelona, among others.

Fragen? CULTURAL EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES

In addition to course activities and academic site visits, students visit famous UNESCO heritage sites such as the Cologne Cathedral, the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, and the Augustusburg Castle, the Museum of German Postwar History, the Olympic Museum and famous World War II venues. Highlight of this program is a seven day excursion to Southern Germany and beautiful Switzerland, which includes a two day hike in the famous Eiger Nordwand region as well as trip to Heidelberg, the Black Forrest, Lucerne and Lausanne.

  • Good standing with TAMU and approval of professor
  • Students must attend all Study Abroad meetings
